Cotuit \emdash Clifford "Clipper" Wentworth Allen Jr., 59, died peacefully at home May 31, 2010, after a long, brave battle with prostate cancer.
Mr. Allen was born on Nantucket to Clifford W. Allen Sr. and Helen Toner Allen on Sept. 24, 1950.
He was literally "the man who died with a smile on his face."
Mr. Allen was known as skilled and talented in all his endeavors. He worked as a glazier by trade, was an Eagle Scout, worked wood, fished, skied, played championship soccer and wrestled in prep school in Maine. He was a professional chef and he played the keyboard with several different bands.
He rode motorcycles, camped, played darts, wrote poetry and gave from his heart freely.
He is survived by sisters Sydney Arlington and her husband Dick of Goose Creek, S.C., Paige Matson and her husband Vern of Jefferson, N.H.; and a brother, David Allen of Falmouth. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allen is also survived by fiancée Becky Hatton and children Daniel Viegas and his wife Rhonda, Bonnie Ryan and her husband Mike, and Heidi Viegas and her love Matt MacNally; and great-granddaughter Felicity Yates. He also leaves his afghan hound Akiah, and grand-pups Tobey Viegas and Ozzy L. MacNally.
A celebration of Mr. Allen's life will be held on his birthday, Sept. 24, 2010. Send your invitation request for the memorial to P.O. Box 794, Cotuit, MA 02635 or to clipster54@yahoo.com.
Burial will be private.
