He went to Brookfield, Mass., about 1798, where he purchased of Rufus Hardy six and one-half acres, with house, barn and blacksmith shop, north of the burying yard. In company with his brother-in-law, Royal Tyler, he opened a store and conducted a mercantile business in the town of Ware."
