Notes
Marriage Notes (Obadiah Newcomb)
His early manhood was spent in Edgartown, and in 1713 he removed to Lebanon, Conn., soon thereafter settling in the adjoining town of Hebron. He was engaged in the military service, hence the title "Capt." upon his tomb, which is situated upon land which he formerly owned, for generations known as the 'Newcomb farm". Assembly confirmed him Captain of the company or train band, in the parish of Andover, Conn., and requested that he be commissioned accordingly. The farm above referred to is in that part of Heborn, now Andover, about three-fourths of a mile from the railway station. The homestead was deeded to Obadiah Newcomb's son, Daniel, as a gift, on 27 July 1758, and consisted of 250 acres of fertile land. Capt. Newcomb invested in farm lands, and in 1718 purchased fifty acres of Joseph Bradford of New London, Conn. In 1726 he bought ten acres on "Village Hill" adjoining land of his brother, Hezekiah. In 1738 he added seventy acres between "Ten Mile Brook and Hop River" and in 1747 he invested in 100 acres in Sharon, Conn. Like his forebears, Capt. Obadiah Newcomb was an estimable man, a pious Christian, and from Mar. 1727 a member of the Bolton Church.

On 21 Nov. 1727, a road was laid out to the southeast corner of Mr. Obadiah Newcomb's orchard. In May 1743 Obadiah Newcomb's name (with others) was signed to a petition of the residents of Hebron "praying there may be a district ecclesiastical society" there.

Notes
General:
Biographical Review of Sagadahoc, Lincoln and Knox Counties. 1897, p 402-3:
Benjamin F. Curtis of Richmond, Sagadahoc County, an ex-member of the Maine legislature and the proprietor of a large grist-mill, was born at Bowdoinham, April 8, 1849, son of John and Charlotte (Temple) Curtis.
John Curtis was a ship carpenter and farmer, who died in 1870, aged 64. He was born in Bowdoinham, as was Charlotte, and he was a militia captain. John's parents were John and Miriam (Merriman) Curtis.
Benjamin was schooled in Bowdoinham. He operates the only grist-mill in town, handling about 40,000 bushels of corn annually. He also deals in all kinds of agricultural implements, and does a flourishing business in confectionery.
Benjamin married Jennie Hatch, April 16, 1870. They have 2 living children: Carlton H in Richmond, and Ruie, at home.
At one time he served the town of Perkins in the capacities of Selectman, Collector and Treasurer, and he was a Representative to the legislature in 1889. In politics he supports the Republican party. An esteemed member of the Methodist church, he has been superintendent of the Sunday-school for 10 years. He occupies a prominent position among the leading residents of Richmond, and is very popular in business and social circles. 23
