Trained in Holland in the late 19th century, Chase returned to America in 1879 and became an influential figure in the spreading of the Hague School of Dutch Impressionist painting. Unfortunately, Chase was forced into an insane asylum under peculiar circumstances and died in the facility at the early age of 36.
