CHATHAM — Carroll M. "Coot" Cahoon Jr. died Dec. 20, after a briefillness at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He was 79.
Mr. Cahoon was the son of the late Carroll M. Cahoon Sr., and Erdine (Doane) Cahoon. He was a life-long resident of Chatham. He graduated from Chatham High School in 1945. His love of playing baseball began during high school years and continued with the Chatham town team as well as his being an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Mr. Cahoon was previously employed by Carleton E. Small Builders as a finish carpenter and in later years self-employed performing many carpentry jobs, andlawn maintenance in the town.
He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a 50-year blood donor for the American Red Cross. He was a member of St. Martin's Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, Kiwanis, and the Nickerson Family Association. He enjoyed volunteering his time for many fund-aising events in the community.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda J. Bransford of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; one uncle; and three cousins. Mr. Cahoon was predeceased by his former wife, Joan (Titley) Cahoon and two infant sons, William and ThomasCahoon, respectively.
A memorial and Masonic service will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Chatham Elder Services, 193 Stony Hill Road, Chatham, MA 02633.
