"In his will, proved at Barnstable 6 Nov. 1770, Reuben Rich named his wife Ruth, his son Reuben, his three minor sons, Elisha, Isaac, and Aaron, and his three daughters, Martha, wife of Josiah Rich, Abigail Young, and Ruth Covell. His widow, Ruth Rich, was appointed by the Probate Court in 1771 guardian of the minor sons Elisha and Isaac, and the son Reuben was appointed guardian of the minor son Aaron. (Cf. Barnstable Probate Records, vol. 15, p. 83.)
In a deed, dated 1 Dec. 1795, the brothers Reuben Rich, Elisha Rich, and Isaac Rich of Wellfleet conveyed to their sister, Ruth Covell, widow, her part of the estate of their grandfather, Samuel Brown, deceased, which was given to their mother by the will of their grandfather. "Israel Higgins went to Connecticut about 1740 or possibly earlier, settling first at Haddam and he and his wife became members of the church at East Middletown, now Portland, Conn. In the years 1742 to 1747 he bought land in the parish of Middle Haddam, and settled there, he and his wife becoming members of the church at Middle Haddam, whose meetinghouse was then located at "Hog Hill," several miles south of the present village of Middle Haddam. In the ancient cemetery near this church Israel Higgins, his wives and some others of his family were buried. In the records he is called captain and mariner."
