William Preston came to the colonies in the ship "Truelove" in 1635 with his wife Mary, and six children.
On 6th of July 1643, William Preston was made a Freeman and member of the Colony Court [of New haven] with ten people in his family, founty pound estate in ninety-one acres of land. On the 1st of July William took the oath of Fidelity.
On the 17th of May 1647, William Preston "who was instructed to looke to the shutting the meeting dores, was desired to keep them constantly shutt & that they be opened upon the Lord dayes".
On the 5th of July 1647, he was appointed one of a "committee unto whom all questions concerninge the sheep business is referred".
On the 5th of August 1644, certain persons agreed that on certain conditions "they will digg a channell which shall bring boates (at least) to the end of the streets besides Will Preston's house, att any time of the tyde, except they meete with some invincible difficulty which may hinder them digging the channell so deepe, whereupon it was ordered" (the channel was dug up to William Preston's house on Chapel Street). On the 7th of September 1647, New Haven County Court, " Sister Preston presented her husband's will andinventory of his estate to be entered".
