The Reverend Ephraim Briggs graduated from Harvard College in 1764 and was ordained in Halifax 29 APR 1767. Besides educating his own children he educated the children of his deceased brother Richard Briggs.
Agreement was made on the distribution of land which had belonged, one half to Benjamin Ward and one half to daughters of Josiah Cushman of Plimpton. Rebecca Briggs signed as one of the heirs of Josiah Cushman (Plymouth County Deeds, 81:231).
As admistrating of the estate of the Rev. Ephraim Briggs, Charles Holmes in 1803 granted to John Waterman of Halifax 9 1/2 acres on the west side of Monponset Pond (ibid., 90:253). On 6 OCT 1801, he sold to William Briggs, Clerk of Kittery, York Co., 11 1/2 acres in Halifax (ibid). Both deeds were subject to life interest of widow Rebecca Briggs.

John was born on the homestead at Conihassett shortly after his father's death.John and Deborah resided at Scituate until 1714 when he sold part of the old estate at Conihassett to his cousin Joseph Briggs (son of Cornelius), and purchased from his aunt Hannah Jolles the house on Prince Street, Boston, which had been given to her by her father, Walter Briggs, on her marriage to Samuel Winslow.
