In 1655 Margaret sailed for England with the Rev. Mr. Matthews of Malden, who may have been a relative. Margaret was Gabriel's second wife and not the mother of any of the children. Her origin is not clear, but many researchers believe she was a sister or other close relative of Rev. Matthews.
Rev. Matthews was ejected from his position as Malden's minister for his theological opinions by his congregation. After a period of calm in Wales, he ran afoul of authorities, but continued to preach unofficially.
