Chickens to Bring Questions to Court
Rearing and feeding of chickens is the point of controversy in an action of contract brought against Dr. Daniel H. Hiebert by Frank E. Rich, both of Provincetown, in which the latter seeks settlement of compensation which he says is due him for the care of chickens owned by Dr. Hiebert.
Originally the case was entered in District Court here but was removed for trial by jury to the Superior Court by the defendant.
Mr. Rich claims that Dr. Hiebert placed a number of chickens in his care on June 10 with the understanding that he was to have half of them in payment for his services in caring for the poultry. He states, however, that he was discharged without proper cause on November 14 and has not received the share which he says was specified. He is seeking a settlement of $150 and costs. Failing to gain such a settlement he will ask pay for his services at a dollar a day, which he contends will amount to $156.
In his answer Dr. Hiebert denies the allegations and states that he owes Mr. Rich nothing.

In court, in 1944, Rich's housekeeper assaulted Dr Hiebert, and was given a year in jail.

Funeral services with military rites were held Tuesday afternoon at the Fisk Funeral Home for Frank E. Rich, 64, of 64 Franklin street, who died Saturday at the Davis Park Veterans Administration Hospital in Providence after a short illness. The Rev. Arthur O. Dewey, pastor of the Provincetown Methodist Church officiated and interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Wellfleet, in which town Mr. Rich was born.
Both the Legion Posts of Provincetown and Wellfleet participated in the services and committal at the cemetery and the Air Force provided a nine-man firing squad. Paul Tesson of the John R. McKay Post of Wellfleet was bugler. Mr. Rich was disabled veteran of World War I in which he saw considerable action.
