Mr. Strout graduated from Barnstable High School and was first mate on the commercial fishing vessel Rosie K. He loved fishing, country music and his beloved Mac.

He is survived by his father, Edward Strout, of Harwich; his mother and step-father Bernice (Lopes) and John Rice of Craigville Beach; his sister, Megan Welsh of Falmouth; two brothers, Mark E. SOUTH WELLFLEET-Lois Lane (Stuart) Carlson, 79, died Oct. 2 at her home. She was the wife of Arnold T. Carlson for 54 years.

Mrs. Carlson was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Rev. Louis Stuart and Martha Leonora Stuart. During her childhood she lived between West Roxbury and Maine, as her father was Methodist minister of two popular parishes.

She attended Girls Latin School in Boston and Mass College of Art. She continued her art education by independent study and occasional classes both in New York and on the Cape throughout her life.

In 1952, the Carlsons moved to Rochester, N.Y., where she was a secretary at the University of Rochester and then in management for Sibley, Lindsay and Curr. She was active in the League of Women Voters, the PTSA, Camp Fire Girls and numerous other community affairs.

After retirement in 1981, they made a permanent move to their home in South Wellfleet. She served as a registrar of voters for the town of Wellfleet and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the cancer support group, the Wellfleet Preschool and provided child care for seven of her 10 grandchildren at various times. She attended the Eastham Methodist Church until recent years.

She attended Nauset basketball, football and track events and also supported the Lower Cape Pop Warner and local equestrian events that her grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed dance, music and theater, crossword puzzles and games of strategy.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Scott D. Koziol of Silver Springs, Md., Arnold S. Carlson of Honolulu, and Skye L. Green of Brewster; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Oct. 6, at Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main St., Wellfleet. A service for the family and friends will follow at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA of Cape Cod, P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601, or Nauset Regional High School Booster Club, P.O. Box 1887, North Eastham, MA 02651.

In the Gloucester, Massachusetts Directory of 1860 page 163 , Alexander is listed as living in Lanesville(North Gloucester), he is also listed in the book Village at Lanescove by Barbara H. Erkkila on page 22 under old time fisherman's names at Lanescove in Lanesville. From the National Archives Alexander's full pension file states that on December 26, 1862 Alexander at the age of 34 enlists in the War of the Rebellion he is 5 ft 7 inches tall, had blue eyes, brown hair, and his skin color was dark. He served in the Union Army for the 3rd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery Company A., being discharged on September 15, 1864 from Fort Berry VA., reaching the rank of Corporal. Alexander re-enlisted into the Union Navy on September 15, 1864, first serving aboard the Princeton from August 20,1864 to November 30,1864, on the New Hampshire till December 11,1864, then the South Carolina till his discharge on June 28, 1865 as ordinary seaman and returned to Gloucester Massachusetts. His father Robert also served in the Navy aboard the Frigate Minnesota, according to Alexander's obituary.
From 1870 to his death he held jobs as a stone cutter in Rockport, Massachusetts, and a whitewasher in Wakefield, Massachusetts. From his obituary socially a member of the Sons of Veterans and belonged to the H. M. Warren GAR Post 12 Wakefield Mass. (He was called the "kid" of the camp) Alexander died from Senile Debility and is Buried in Lakeside Cemetery Wakefield, Massachusetts GAR Post # 12 lot. At the time of his death on May 15, 1905, he resided at 5 Crescent St. Wakefield he was 78 years old.
