Marriage Notes (Adam Wright)
Before 1699 Adam Wright married (2nd) Mehitable BARROW, daughter of Robert and Ruth (BONUM) BARROW. On 20 Jun 1717 Adam Wright of "Plimton" and Mehitable, his wife sold their part of the estate of "our Hond. Father Robert Barrow late of Plymth. deceasd." (MD 11:244-5). Mehitable was living on 28 Dec 1720, when she surrendered her dower rights, as wife of Adam Wright, to his gift of land in Plimton, dated 13 Dec 1709, to his son Isaac (Plymouth Co. LR 13:120).
Adam Wright was called blacksmith of Plymouth in 1699 and 1701, when he was sued for debt (Plymouth [Co] CT Rec 1686-1859 ed. by David Thomas Konig [1978], hereafter Plym Ct Rec 1:230, 256). The will of Adam Wright of Plympton, dated 9 Apr 1723, probated 2 Nov 1724, names sons John Wright, Isaac Wright, Samuel Wright, and Moses Wright; grandchildren Joshua Pratt and Sarah his sister, children of daughter Esther Pratt; daughter Sarah Fuller, wife of Seth Fuller; sons James Wright and Nathan Wright; daughter Mary Gifford, wife of Jeremiah Gifford; daughter Rachel Barlow, wife of Ebenezer Barlow; and wife Mehitable Wright (MD 4:239-40). No record is found of the birth of any of Adam's children, nor of his marriages, so dates given are approximations. (Further information regarding Adam's family will be found in MD 11:242-7)
On 13 Jul 1691, Ephraim Tinkham and wife Esther of Middleboro and Mary Price of Plymouth sold to their brother Adam Wright of Plymouth their share of the housing and lands left to them by their father Richard Wright, however, Mary reserved the right to live in the house (Plymouth Co LR 7:65)

IS HE THE SON OF JOHN?
While some have questioned if Robert was the son of John Barrows, Martin Hollick ("John Barrows of Plymouth, Massachusetts," NEHGR 166:121) states: "It is important to be clear that this Robert was the son of John. In addition to John's will, on 19 September 1701, Robert Barrows deeded land to Joseph Sturtevant as 'I Robert Barrow, son of John Barrow, late of Plymouth, deceased, now a resident of Falmouth in Barnstable.' ... There can be no doubt about the relationship between John and Robert."
HISTORY
From Genealogical and Memorial History of the State of New Jersey:
"His homestead in Plymouth contained two or more acres of ground on the northerly side of Mill street, then a common road leading into Plymouth.... This estate was conveyed to Robert Barrows, January 30, 1679, by George Bonum, and bounded by: 'ye Great street on ye Southerly side of ye town of Plymouth, and by ye street that goeth up from ye grist mill to ye Fort Hill so called with ye dwelling house therein."
From NEHGR:
"Robert received a homestead and land from George Bonum in two deeds, the first of which was dated 30 January 1679: 'George Bonum Senr. of Plymouth in New England in America husbandman doe acknowledge that in Consideration of the naturall affection which I beare unto my son in law Robert Barrows and my daughter Ruth Barrow his wife...' The second deed is dated 21 February 1679 and again mentions Robert and Ruth similarly."
UNDATED DEED
From Black:
"The subscribed children of Ruth Barrow deceased, wife of Robert Barrow of Plymouth, deceased, and the children of John Barrow eldest son of said Ruth Barrow in consideration of 33 pounds in money paid by Robert Barrow of Mansfield, do quit claim all right to a certain house and lot and barn in Plymouth being above the grist mill, and now in improvement of Elisha Barrow." Signed: George Barrow for myself and sister Mehitable, Samuel Barrow, Samuel Barrow son to John Barrow, Ruth Briggs.
WILL
Dated 9 Dec 1707, probated 19 Dec 1707. Signed with the mark of Robert Barrow. Gives his wife Lydia his dwelling house and the lands pertaining thereto; 2 cows, 18 sheep, household goods, gun and sword. He mentions only two sons by name, Robert and Thomas, giving them lands in another part of town. In a codicil he states that he makes no mention of his children from his first marriage as they had already received their portions. "And as to Elisha and my daughters by my second wife, have given considerable part of my estate to her to be disposed of to them as she shall see cause." Lydia was executrix.
