Jabez served as Eastham surveyor of highways and as a selectman. He was a freeman June 7, 1681, at Eastham. He served as Lieutenant in Capt. John Gorham's Canada expedition in 1690. His estate was inventoried 22 April 1691 by Wm Walker, Samuel Smith and Daniel Cole. There was no will, and the estate was probated 30 April 1691, with the inventory recorded by Joseph Lothrop. 33

"The fourth generation Jabez, served in the British Colonial Army as a Captain, who fought against the French in the Seven Year's War (1756-63) and he emigrated to Granville, Nova Scotia in 1762 with his wife Elizabeth to fill the lands vacated when the Acadians were expelled in 1755. Several of their sons, including Edward and families came to Wakefield Parish, Carleton County in 1815 where they were granted land in the third tier back from the river. "
