Antone Silva, 86
Decorated WW II veteran
Antone "Tony" Silva, 86, longtime resident of Provincetown and Brewster, died on Nov. 22.
Tony was born in New Bedford, the son of Manuel and Agatha Silva, and raised in Provincetown. He was a longtime employee of The Advocate newspaper in Provincetown, under the ownership of the late Paul and Dorothy Lambert. His nephew, LeRoy E. Atkins, who worked with him there, told the Banner he remembers toiling away with Tony on the 100th anniversary issue of The Advocate in the summer of 1969. Tony eventually moved to Brewster to work at The Cape Codder newspaper in Orleans.
He served in WW II and came home a decorated veteran, having served in an Army tank division during the war. He listed his war service among his proudest accomplishments. He was a member of the Lewis A. Young VFW post in Provincetown.
Among his interests were freshwater fishing at Nickerson State Park, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family, including the family dog Sandy. He would jokingly laugh that he had outlived all his friends but those left will miss him, as will his family.
He was the husband of the late Patricia (Weed) Silva; father of Christopher Silva, of Orleans, Kathryn Silva, of Marstons Mills, and the late Karen Silva; grandfather to Christopher Thompson, of Brewster, Jessica Liimatainen, of Centerville, Kelsey Chase, of Centerville, and Victoria and Parker Appleby, of Georgia. He was the great-grandfather to Skyler Thompson, of Brewster, and Chase Liimatainen, of Centerville.
Donations may be made in his memory to The Pavilion in Hyannis, with a special thanks to Rose of the Brewster Animal Rescue League.

Clement S. Silva, 81
WW II vet was former fisherman & fire chief
Clement S. Silva, 81, of North Truro, died Sunday, Aug. 31, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Provincetown he was the son of the late Arthur B. and Margaret (Dutra) Silva. After high school he enlisted in the Navy and served in WW II. He was discharged in 1946.
He was the husband of Ursula (Quade) Silva whom he met on the beach in Provincetown in 1946. They married in 1949 and had four children.
Mr. Silva’s life was one of dedication to his family and his community. He was a fisherman for 27 years. Two of the boats he fished aboard were the Shirley & Roland and the 2Cs. In 1967 he changed careers and became an ambulance driver for Lower Cape Ambulance. From a very young age he showed an interest in serving on the fire department and at the age of 12 he was appointed a junior firefighter in Provincetown. It was a job that suited him well as he rose to the position of fire chief. He was committed to emergency preparedness, spending much of his adult life as a member of the Provincetown Rescue Squad and teaching CPR to people all over the Outer Cape.
Besides his job, his other passion was his family. He and Ursula were known for their annual Blessing of the Fleet parties held at their home on Commercial Street, which began with a few family members and over the years grew to become a festival of its own with hundreds of guests. During his quiet time at home he enjoyed his hobby of woodworking and wood carving. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Provincetown Lions Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three of his four children; Susan Medina, of Medfield, and Clement A. Silva and Debra J. Silva, both of North Truro; his daughter-in-law Sandy (Cook) Silva, also of North Truro; five granddaughters, Carrie Notaro, of Provincetown, Erin Callahan, of Millis, MacKenzie Yarletts, of Harwich, Kylie Jean Silva, of Plainville, and Debra Stewart, of North Truro; and four great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Gary S. Silva, who died in 2002, and the brother of the late Arthur Silva.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, followed by burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. If desired, memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Provincetown Rescue Squad, 25 Shank Painter Road, Provincetown, MA 02657; Truro Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2013, Truro, MA 02666 or to Lower Cape Ambulance, P.O. Box 1721, Provincetown, MA 02657.
