" Isaiah Nye in his early years was a merchant of Chatham, and later was a United States deputy collector of customs and registers of deeds. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal church. They were the parents of a son and six daughters, Hester A. R. Mayo being the last survivor. Yarmouthport -- Leslie Stuart Ryder, 72, died Feb. 15, 2008 after a brief illness.
Mr. Ryder was born in Dennisport and raised in Yarmouthport. He was educated in Yarmouth and graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1953.
After graduation, he entered the Navy and served overseas in the Philippines during the Korean War.
After the Navy, he founded Center News on Main Street in Hyannis and then worked at Dwyer's News Service, Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home and New England Reprographics.
He was a longtime member of the Barnstable-Yarmouth Lions Club and served as president several times. He received the Lions Club's Melvin Jones Award for community service.
Mr. Ryder is survived by two daughters, Lisa Ryder McCormack of Centerville and Valerie Ryder Letelier of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Michael S. Ryder of Milford, N.H., and Andrew J. Ryder of New Bedford; a brother, Leonard C. Ryder of South Yarmouth; a sister, Mary Lois Ryder Studley of Yarmouthport; and six grandchildren, Catherine, Jacob, Noah, Caroline, Zachary and Andrew.
A funeral was held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in South Dennis. Burial was in Woodside Cemetery in Yarmouthport.
