                3. Elizabeth Rogers (1617-1660)

Notes
General:
1616 to 1617: Thomas Rogers left England and bought a house at Leyden, where he was called a "camlet merchant". Although he and his wife supposedly had other children, it has never been proven. Thomas was a passenger and signature of the Mayflower Compact. He died in the "first sickness" in the winter of 1621.

Thomas Rogers came from Leiden, Holland, but Thomas Rogers was born in Watford, Northamptonshire, England.
1618, June 25: He became a citizen of Leiden, Zuid Holland, Netherlands with sponsors William Jepson and Roger Wilson, and is called a Camlet-merchant or camelot merchant on the tax rolls of St. Bartholomew the Great, London.
1620, April 1: He sold his house in Leyden before coming to America on the "Mayflower".

1620, December 21: Thomas Rogers and his son Joseph came to the colonies at Plymouth Rock aboard the "Mayflower". The first of our family to arrive here. It seems that his wife and the rest of the family came over later, there were three other children all born in England or Wales. Thomas Rogers was the 18th signer of the Mayflower Compac.

We believed he was one of the one(s) who grew sick and were tended by William Brewster and Miles Standish. We (also) believe he and the 51 others who perished of scurvy and pneumonia were buried in the mass grave site called Cole's Hill. They were buried there and all signs removed to prevent desecration by the Indians. (Can find no further record of this person).

1621: Thomas Rogers died in the "first sickness"of that winter.

1621: Thomas Rogers died.

Marriage Notes (Alice Cosford)
Thomas Rogers and his son Joseph were Mayflower passengers. Alice and their children Elizabeth, Margaret and John were listed in the 1622 Leyden tax lists, in the household of Anthony Clements.
I wonder about the children's birthplaces - it's odd to have them all born in different places.
Also, the Randall genealogy gives 2 wives for Thomas (Thomas John?) Rogers, even though Alice, wife 1, was still alive at the date of the alledged marriage to Grace. Not impossible, but unusual, and not discussed either. I wonder whether there are more than one Rogers being conflated here.

Marriage Notes (Grace McKin)
The Randall genealogy has 3 children for Grace born in 1617, in 3 different places. Something isn't right. Also, the Randall genealogy gives 2 wives for Thomas (Thomas John?) Rogers, even though Alice, wife 1, was still alive at the time of the alleged marriage to Grace. Not impossible, but unusual, and not discussed either. I wonder whether there were more than one Rogers being conflated.

Notes
General:
1660, December 27: Joseph Rogers died from a fall in wrestling with his friend, Richard Hawes (or John Hawes) "Christmas Day 1660". According to Court records, "John Hawes was found not guilty of "takeing away the life of Joseph Rogers of Eastham by giveing him a most deadly fall, on the 25 of December 1660 . . . whereof he . . . about 48 hours after died".
