General:
Simeon Nickerson, son of Joshua, the Grantee of Barrington, his wife Martha Kendrick and their children, were the first settlers of Oak Park...After living at Shag Harbor, Simeon proposed to settle at the forks of Pubnico and Barrington ()River) Road. He was advised to go up further where the oaks were. This was partly back of the township line. He took out a grant for 5 persons at Provost Town now Oak Park, where many of his descendants live.
