Biography of Philip Taber from: Henry Howland Crapo, Certain Comeoverers, Vol. I (New Bedford, MA: E. Anthony & Sons, 1912), pp. 307-313:
Philip Tabor may be designated as your "migratory comeoverer." Most of your comeoverers, after a brief period of vacillation "sat down" and stayed put. It was not so with Philip Tabor. Whence he came I know not. He was probably born in England about 1605. He may have come over with Winthrop in 1630 and settled first at Boston. His (Winthrop) was evidently a nature which could permit no "pent up Utica" to contract his powers, even if he did not go to the extreme of making the "whole boundless continent his." In the case of Philip Tabor, however, there is nothing shady about him except his conduct. So far as his personality is concerned, it is singularly distinct. He was in no sense an important individual in the history of New England, and yet he succeeded in projecting his personality rather more vividly than most of your ancesters. Philip Tabor was admitted a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony October 19, 1630. On May 14, 1634, he was admitted a freeman of Watertown. He was a carpenter and builder, and must have come to New England with some capital as well as skill in his trade. He was one of the original contributors to a floating fort to protect Boston, 1633-4. "Upon consideration of the usefulness of a moving fort to be built forty feet long and twenty-one wide, for the defense of this colony, and upon the free offer of some gentlemen lately come over to us of some large sums of money to be employed that way" the Court asked for further subscriptions. The record shows that Philip Tabor was among the gentlemen who had already subscribed by offering to give two hundred four-inch planks, a substantial and useful donation. In Watertown he was the proprietor of five lots which he sold to John Wolcot. Here he married Lydia, the daughter of John Masters, with whom very probably he was associated in construction work. What caused him to remove to Yarmouth we cannot know. It is quite likely that there was an opportunity there for him as a builder. He was propounded as a freeman of Plymouth Colony, January 7, 1638-9, and was admitted June 4, 1639. That he should have served the same year as a Deputy for Yarmouth to the first General Court at Plymouth is a striking example of his forcefulness in impressing others with his ability. In March 1639, he was one of a committee to make division of the planting lands at Yarmouth. In 1640, he again represented Yarmouth at the General Court. On October 4, 1640, as appear ...

He resided in 1639/40 in Yarmouth, MA. He resided between 1651 and 1653 in New London, CT. He resided in 1653 in Martha's Vineyard. He resided between 1654 and 1663 in Portsmouth, Newport Co, RI. "1860.
1861.
Rev. James Mather followed Brother Hatfield [at Wellfleet], and witnessed some prosperity and a few conversions under his labors. He was esteemed a true minister of the gospel, and had the cordial support of his people. Through much hard labor, amid the excitement of the war, he passed his second year; and a very deep seriousness was manifested toward its close in the sabbath-evening services. The vestry was often crowded beyond its seating-capacity, and many were almost persuaded to surrender to Jesus; yet there was no break, and in this condition he left them. There were two hundred and eighty-two members, and the collection for missions was one hundred and six dollars.
James Mather was born near Manchester, Eng., to which city he removed when young. He was a candidate for the Wesleyan Conference, and passed the regular examinations at the district meeting ; but, on account of the great number of candidates for several years, there was a large surplus of ministers, and he was advised by the secretary of the Conference, the celebrated Dr. Newton, and Rev. Joseph Taylor, one of the ex-presidents, who were his pastors, to come to the United States, and join the Methodist Episcopal Church. Feeling that this was the call of God, he acted upon it in 1843, and was at once, through the letters of these men, employed under Rev. F. Upham, then presiding elder. In 1844 he joined the Providence Conference, and was ordained deacon with the second class ordained by Bishop Janes. He has since been constant in the work, and God has been with him. In 1868 he was a delegate to the General Conference. He is now (1876) on his fourth year as presiding elder of New Bedford District." 2

"Angus K. Matheson
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for the late Captain Angus K. Matheson at the Center Church with the Rev. Edwin Dickinson Sr., and the Rev. Benjamin DuVal officiating.
Captain Matheson was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, September 6, 1850, the son of John and Mary Matheson. He came to Provincetown in 1867, from where he later went to sea. Lysander Paine of the west end, gave him his first voyage when Mr. Matheson was 26 years of age. This first voyage carried him to the Grand Banks.
He followed the sea most of his life. Other sea trips took him to the West Indies and South America ; he sailed on both the Atlantic and Pacific. One of his vessels was the British-built brigantine, Mersey Belle, whose cargo consisted of mahogany and cocoanuts.
He retired in the autumn of 1920, from his active life, which from beginning to end was one of much interest and experience.
In 1887 he married Rebecca Charlotte MacKenzie in Boston. Both returned to Provincetown, where they made their home, and their children were all born here. Mrs. Matheson died on September 2, 1925.
Mr. Matheson was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1884. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows here. He attended the services of the Center Church.
His survivors are three daughters, Miss Sarah Matheson, New Rochelle, N. Y.; Miss Orpha Matheson, New Rochelle, N. Y., and a son, Angus S., of Brookline, Mass."
