Barnstable Patriot, 26 jan 1892
"It is understood that Messrs. Smith of Mayo's Beach Light and Ira Ingalls of Billingsgate Point Light are to exchange places. We are glad for Mrs. Ingalls, mother of Mr. Ingalls, who has not been off the island for eight years."

Barnstable Patriot, 21 mar 1893
"Ira W. Ingalls died Wednesday in Salem, aged 41. For 10 years he was a lighthouse keeper at Wellfleet, and an assistant keeper of lights at Barkers Island, in Salem harbor, for a year and a half."

On the western shore of the harbor, at the entrance, lies Billingsgate Island, a low sandy islet, triangular in shape and fringed with sand hillocks from fifteen to twenty feet high. It is surrounded in every direction by dangerous shoals and flats, many of which are bare at low water, -- so that it cannot be approached except from the harbor side. On its southeastern extremity is built the light-house which is the guide to Wellfleet Harbor.
