Our South Dennis correspondent furnished us with the following account of the Big Fire in that vicinity on Saturday, which was so plainly visible from most of the villages upon the Cape:

"South Dennis
Monday 14th inst., we were visited by a very severe thunderstorm, doing much damage. A number of houses were struck by lightning.. Capt. Peleg Thatcher's new house had the chimney taken off and it passed through the roof, passing through several rooms, stopping in the kitchen; shattering the plastering and otherwise damaging the wood work.
...
Mr. Elkanah Howland's house was very badly damaged by lightnining. They had but one room to go in. All of the above [4] houses were insured.
Mr Aaron Studley's house was struck and damaged so badly that they had to seek a home with their daughter. A large hay stack caught fire. Mr. Studley is a poor man and both he and his wife quite aged, and the loss of all is severely felt by them in their old age. There were several other houses struck, but not hurt to speak of.
