John P. Hinckley
ORLEANS--John P. Hinckley Jr., 66, formerly of Hopkinton, died Dec. 6, at Cape Cod Hospital, following cardiac surgery and due to complications of diabetes.
Mr. Hinckley was born in Waterville, Me. the son of Louise (Learned) and J. Philip Hinckley. He graduated from Nauset Regional High School in 1960. He was a Navy corpsman, specializing in cardiopulmonary technology and care, and a graduate of Suffolk and Boston University.
Mr. Hinckley worked many years at Massachusetts General Hospital in cardiac care and research. He then worked in the private sector at Kontron and Bard companies in medical research and products, serving as a project manager in the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology division.
He loved his family dearly, many friends throughout Orleans, the Cape and statewide, and his cat, Maxwell. He had a great love and passion for serving in town government.
He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Jane (Gillett); three children, Rebecca A. Hanneman, of Auburn, John P. Hinckley III of Mendon, and Sara J. Johnson of Auburn; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by granddaughter, Brenna Lynn Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Orleans United Methodist Church, Main Street, Orleans. Funeral services will be in the church on Friday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Orleans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 60 Walnut St., Wellesley Hills, MA 02481, or The Academy of Performing Arts, P.O. Box 1843, Orleans, MA 02653.
