" Horace Moulton was a very useful man. His stay in Wellfleet was brief, and the apparent success of his labors was less than on almost any of his other fields. He conducted, under God, many revivals, and organized many churches. For thirty-one years he sustained an effective relation to the New England Conference ; and through his life of self-denial and Christlike benevolence, devoting himself to the one work of saving souls, he saw a very large number converted. He was superannuated for thirteen years, but never lost his intense interest in the progress and triumphs of Christ's kingdom. " His declining years were full of sunshine ; " and on the 11th of September, 1873, he entered into rest." 11

Provincetown Advocate:
March 23. 1967
TWO MEN ARRAIGNED IN HOFMANN THEFT
Two Provincetown men pleaded not guilty this morning before Special Justice Gershom D. Hall to identical charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, and with stealing paintings valued at more than $100 from the former Hans Hofmann residence at 76 Commercial Street on or about December 7, 1966.
Eldred Mowery, Jr., 41, of 5 Winthrop Street, through Attorney John C. Snow admitted sufficient facts for a finding of probable cause and was bound over to the Barnstable Grand Jury session beginning April 13 at the request of his attorney Robert A. Welsh, Jr.
Mr. Mowery, identified as a lodging house proprietor, and Mr. Wehage, a painter and writer who augments his income with carpentry, were said to have cooperated with the investigating authorities.
Testimony by Trooper Robert A. Enos of the State Police, District Attorney’s office, gave details of the theft. FBI, state and local investigations led to Mr. Mowery’s being questioned at his home yesterday by the FBI, and later interviewed in the presence of his lawyer. He was said to have told the following story:
The two entered the Hofmann house by removing a screen and opening a window. After “accumulating” some 41 paintings, they left by a door. The paintings were first taken to a cellar in Orleans, later to a home in Dennis.
Sometime afterward, Mr. Wehage is said to have made arrangements to dispose of the paintings through a “Michael Cole,” expecting to recover between $25,000 and $30,000 from insurance companies.
Mr. Cole was met at a cocktail lounge near Quincy, and the paintings were transferred to him there.
Arguing for continuance of the $2,000 bail set early this morning when he surrendered his client to local police, Attorney Snow stressed the cooperative attitude of Mr. Mowery. He assured the court that neither of the two men would “run.” Judge Hall, however, referred to the $250,000 value of the stolen property involved, and set bail for both men at $20,000 cash or double sureties and remanded both men to custody pending the posting of bail.
The stolen paintings had earlier been recovered by FBI agents posing as insurance brokers.
