LAWRENCE - JUNE 23,1901-
In the death of Joshua W. Higgins, at 5 O'clock tonight, this city loses one of it foremost citizens. Mr. Higgins had been a prominent businessman for 25 years and was widely known and much respected. He would have been 60 years of age had he lived 11 days longer. He was born in North Eastham. About 18 months ago, because of failing health, he retired from the firm of Gowing & Higgins, wholesale meat dealers, with which he had been identified for many years. He was director of the Arlington National Bank, the Broadway Savings Bank and the Merchants Express Company. He is survived by a wife and five sons, Henry of Boston, Joshua W. Jr. of Hope, Kansas, Percy W. of Lawrence, Frank E. of North Andover and Charles B. of Lawrence. He was brother in law of Swift ,the Chicago Packer and was Lawrence agent for the firm. No arrangements for the funeral have been made.
