"1895. WILLIAM7 MYRICK NICKERSON (Hatsel6, Hatsel5, William4, Thomas3, William2, William1) was born Wellfleet, MA, 21 Sep. 1802 (1,2), son of Hatsel and his second wife, Jemima Newcomb (Rich) Nickerson. He died before 1880(3).
He married Wellfleet, 12 June 1823, ELIZA HARDING (2), born there, 31 Aug. 1807 (1), probable daughter of Joseph and Hannah (_____) Harding. In 1850 she was age 42; in 1880, age 73, widow, living with daughter Mary (3).
A letter from their son, William Myrick Nickerson, Jr., to William Emery Nickerson (WEN) 26 Feb. 1898, gives his lineage, and historical information about the family. He states his grandfather, Hatsel Nickerson served in the "Revolutionary war year 1812" which first of the year was wounded by a bullet in his breast but lived some years after he came home. He would never have it removed, but at last it was the, cause of his death. After some years he was entitled to a pension, but never received it. "His name was found on the books, but somehow he was cheated out of it."
"My own father, Wm N. Nickerson, was Captain of a market Boat most of his days tenede (sic) Boston Market great pilot in Boston harbor. Many were the times that vessels bound up Boston harbor in bad storms knowing his boat would keep track of his light and by it knowing that if they run by him they were safe... He went away when only a boy 8 years old to get his living."
"I myself have always been to sea for my liveing(sic) but for the last 14 years have been an inviled (invalid) by meeting with an accident on board a vessel..."(4)
