Notes
General:
Signed an agreement for the settlement of his father's estate 1748 in Eastham. He moved to Phillip's Patent in what is now Putnam County, New York. At one time he resided what is known as the Gahn homestead, being part of the land acquired by Dea. Eleazer Hamblin in 1740. He afterwards settled with his sons near what is now the town of North East, Dutchess Co., New York on the Oblong before the Revolution. A General Association was established in NY, in 1775, to carry into effect the measures recommended by the Continental Congress: local associations were also formed whose members were called associators. The names of Joshua and his son David are found in the list of associators in North East precinct, 5 July 1775, showing thatthey were ardent Whigs.

His monument in the cemetery at Mt.Winchell 2 1/2 miles north west from Millerton, N.Y. bears this inscription:
SACRED
TO THE MEMORY OF
MR. JOSHUA HAMBLEN,
HE DIED JAN. 26, 1797
IN THE 76 YEAR OF HIS AGE.
Behold and see as you pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death and follow me. 18
