"Bark Sarah L. Bryant, Jones, which arrived at Boston on Wednesday last, from Shetland Isles, reports that on Dec. 21st in lat. 48 38. lon. 37 20, while lying to in a heavy gale from ESE, a tremendous sea broke on board, which swept everything from the deck, from the fore rigging to the poop, and washed overboard the first mate, Mr. Barnabas C. Hall, of Dennis, who was lost.
Mr. Hall was a son of the late Capt. Freeman Hall who was lost in that never-to-be-forgotten October gale of 1841, and his loss will fall heavily upon his widowed mother, who was hourly expecting him home when the news of his untimely death reached her. He was a young man universally esteemed, and his loss will be deeply deplored by all who knew him." Barnatble Patriot, 22 Jan 1861, p2

" Benjamin Hall was a younger brother of Gershom, and was baptized at Barnstable May 29, 1653. He doubtless was born at Nobscusset, whither his father removed after several years residence in Barnstable. He purchased a large tract of the territory laid out to Edward Sturgis and sons [in Harwich], and came thither and settled upon it. Becoming interested in the purchase of wild lands in Windham, since Mansfield, Conn., in 1708, he removed to that place and died there in 1737." 14Marriage Notes (Mehitable Matthews)
