Lisbon Maine, The History of a Small Maine Town, pg. 13:Marriage Notes (Mary Day)
"Jacob Gould came from Bath and settled here about 1790. He moved from his first place of settlement to another about 1801. A Seth Bickford became owner of the first property that he had settled on. Jacob died on December 27, 1862 at the age of 94 years. His oldest surviving child was Major Stephen Gould who was born in Lisbon on October 17, 1791. For many years Major Gould served as deputy sheriff of Lincoln and Androscoggin County and even at the age of 81 he was hale and hearty and was able to perform a good day's work."
pg. 21:
"Jacob Gould mentioned briefly in an earlier section, was born in 1768 and died in 1862 and was one of the pioneers who settled in this town and helped restore it from the wilderness. He was nineteen years of age at the time. His son Thomas J. Gould who was born in 1841 and died in 1929, succeeded his father upon his return from the Civil War. Through hard work and self denial he transformed the rocky hillside into a fertile farm. Sadly enough the farm burned flat at midnight in July of 1919. The deed to the farm was granted by Governor Bowdoin to Jacob Gould who built the first frame house on it in 1810."
[This book seems to be a poorly researched hack job, confusing generations. DQ]
NEHGS Register 1848, Vol. 2, pg. 370, lists a Jacob Gould who married Ruth Peabody, 25 May 1790 (place not mentioned). She was born 14 Dec 1769. Her parents: Bimsley Peabody (b. 8 Sept 1731 lived in Middleton and Boxford) and Ruth Marston. This Peabody family lived in Lincoln Co., ME.

story in Barnstable Patriot, 31 mar 1863
"Two Men Drowned, in Orleans.
A most melancholy accident occurred in Orleans on Monday of last week, by which two worthy citizens, Mr. Joshua Freeman and Mr. James Gould, lost their lives. They left home at an early hour in the morning, under very auspicious circumstances, and went out of Nauset Harbor for the purpose of fishing.--Before they got ready to return the wind freshened, causing the sea to run high, and in attempting to reach the shore their boat was upset and both were drowned. The body of Mr. Freeman has been recovered, but at last accounts the remains of Mr. Gould had not been found. The Messrs. Freeman and Gould each leave a family, and their loss will be most deeply deplored by the entire community of which they were industrious and honest members."
