Lived in Hingham, Weymouth, Scituate and Mendon. [New England Marriages Prior to 1700]Marriage Notes (Elizabeth Pitts)
Called captain and deacon; resided in Weymouth until 1663, then Mendon, where he was one of the original settlers, until the Indian attacks at the start of the King Philip War drove him back to Scituate in 1676. He lived in Scituate near the road from Cohasset. He was a freeman in 1647.
William was on the original 1662 Committee empowered by the General Court to assist the ordering and settling of the Plantation granted at Netmocke (Mendon). The Indian Deed of 1662 to Moses Payne and Peter Brackett was assigned to this Committee on 8 Sep 1662. All members of this committee were to settle in Mendon in 1663. William came and left in 1663 and returned in 1669 for his land and was involved in town politics and elected selectman 1 Jan 1672. In 1671 his lot size was doubled. In 1673 Deacon William Holbrook was re-elected one of five selectmen. In 1674 and 1675, the town of Mendon was abandoned due to Indian attacks during the King Philip War. In 1677 William Holbrook family returned to Mendon.
"Capt. William Holbrook came into Scituate in 1660, and purchased lands in Conihassett, adjoining the farm of Capt. Michael Pierce, on the south-west. His house was on the south side of the Cohasset road, a half mile west of Capt. Pierce's. His father Thomas had lands in Scituate 1649, but resided in Weymouth; Capt. William died here 1699. His sons settled here, viz. Samuel, whose son Samuel was born 1683, (which later married Jane Clap 1708), John (son of Capt. William) had a son born 1686; he had six daughters; John, his son married Sarah Chittenden 1709. Persis, daughter of Capt. William, married John Farrow 1696." Scituate History
