Elizabeth Joan “Betty” (Farrell) Paget, 92
Brewster — Elizabeth Joan "Betty" (Farrell) Paget, of South Orleans, died peacefully on Aug. 7, 2008, after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Dr. John F. Paget for 60 years.
Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Regis College in Weston.
After college, during World War II, she worked for several years for Lever Brothers in Boston. Post-war brought marriage and travel — first to Miami, Fla., where she became an important part of the Peck & Peck New York-based retailer of private label women's wear. She transferred with Peck & Peck, first to Chicago and then to Boston.
Mrs. Paget made her life around her family — her husband John and their eight children. Babies started in 1948 and continued on through 1962. Homes were first in Chicago, then Boston, Westport and Fairfield, Conn., and finally to Orleans in 1971.
She loved her life on Cape Cod, continuing her favorite activity of "mothering" with the gift of her 10 most beloved grandchildren.
She was very involved with all of the school systems in which her children and grandchildren attended. She was on the board of directors at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., president of the Mother's Clubs at Laycock Country Day School in Greens Farms, Conn., Fairfield Country Day School in Fairfield, Conn., and at St. John's Prep in Danvers. The Nauset Regional School system provided the opportunity for her, as both mother and grandmother, to be the ultimate field trip chaperone — literally spanning decades.
She leaves a sister, Ann Kimball, and her husband, Charlie, of Wellesley; a son, Jack, and his wife, Mechi, of Davie, Fla.; six daughters, Betsy Matson and her husband, Jim, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Molly of Orleans, Kitty of Orleans, Therese Holland and her husband, David, of Orleans, Nancy and Julie, both of Hyannis; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Paget, of Yarmouthport; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several very special nieces and nephews; and her two most beloved toy poodles, Charlie Brown and Red Dandy.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Orleans, with burial following at the Orleans Cemetery.
Donations may be made in the name of Elizabeth Farrell Paget, Class of 1938, to Regis College, 235 Wellesley St., Box 30, Weston, MA 02493.

Hyannis \endash Retired Hyannis Fire Chief Richard R. Farrenkopf of Hyannis passed away Jan. 4, 2011, after a long illness.
He was the husband of Janet (Cobb) Farrenkopf for 64 years.
Born on the Fourth of July in 1928 and raised in Chatham, he was the son of Rudolph and Margaret (Howes) Farrenkopf, the eighth of 10 children. His father came to the Cape while in the Navy and was assigned to the Naval Air Station in Chatham.
Chief Farrenkopf attended Chatham Schools and graduated in 1977 from Cape Cod Community College with an associate degree in fire science.
He was in the Army stationed in Japan from 1946 to 1948 during the post-war occupation and was recalled for active duty during the Korean conflict.
Prior to becoming a firefighter, he worked for Simmons Supply in Hyannis.
Chief Farrenkopf's 35-year career with the Hyannis Fire Department began as a Sunday dispatcher in 1955. He was assigned as a permanent firefighter in 1962, captain in 1967, deputy chief in 1977, and chief officer in 1980. He retired in July 1990.
He was a member of many public safety organizations and contributed to efforts to modernize Emergency Medical Services and fire department activities. During his younger years, he was a member and great supporter of the Boy Scouts.
The chief enjoyed his yearly trips to fire conventions and winter stays in Florida. He was proud of his children, four of whom are fire captain working in the Dennis, Harwich, and Hyannis fire departments.
