Wellfleet man arrested on multiple charges

WELLFLEET - Officers from three police departments as well as county K-9 officers converged on a Gull Pond Road home Tuesday to arrest a 40-year-old Wellfleet man who had four arrest warrants covering multiple charges.
Truro police received information that Daniel Ellis was living at 100 Gull Pond Road. Ellis was wanted on two counts of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor, failure to stop for a police officer, three counts of assault and battery, and a motor vehicle violation, all in connection with incidents that happened in Provincetown and Truro in 2004 and 2005.
A search warrant was obtained, and Truro, Provincetown and Wellfleet police, and Barnstable County Sheriff's K-9 officers arrested Ellis without incident.
He was arraigned in Orleans District Court yesterday and released on $2,000 bail.

A Wellfleet man raced across the Lower Cape in a stolen car yesterday before bailing out and being nabbed in a Brewster forest, police said.
Provincetown police said Daniel J. Ellis, 42, of Gull Pond Road stole a 1993 blue Cadillac DeVille, parked in the municipal lot at the pier, from a man he knew at about 1:45 p.m. The Cadillac was reported stolen 15 minutes later, but had disappeared by then. Local police told other Barnstable County officers to watch for the stolen vehicle.
Almost an hour later, state police Trooper Matthew Covino spotted the car in Eastham. He tried to pull it over in Orleans, but Ellis didn't stop, police said. Covino chased the car for 10 minutes until it crashed into a small tree near a house off Route 6A in Brewster. Ellis got out and ran into the woods, state police said.
Covino ran after Ellis and arrested him. Officers from Brewster and Orleans helped take Ellis to the South Yarmouth barracks.
Ellis was charged with larceny over $250, failing to stop for a police officer, operating on a suspended license, possession of a dangerous weapon (spring-loaded baton), resisting arrest, speeding and other violations, according to state police.
Last night, he was taken to the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, where he will be held without bail until he's arraigned Tuesday in Orleans District Court.
