Bruce H. Edson of Bonita Springs, Fla., Chatham, and formerly of East Bridgewater, died July 30, 2012, at his daughter's home in East Bridgewater, at the age of 80. Bruce was born in Hartford, Conn., son of the late Eleanor (Houghton) and Carl R. Edson and grandson of M. Clifton Edson. Mr. Edson was raised in East Bridgewater, graduated from East Bridgewater High School, and the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich. Bruce held a 100-ton captains license for commercial boating, had been a pilot who flew for Air New England in Hyannis and Delta Airlines, and was a commercial clam fisherman and deputy shell fish warden in Chatham for many years. Prior to moving to Cape Cod, Bruce had been the co-owner of his family business, Edson Insurance in East Bridgewater, and was also a proud Korean War Army veteran. He was a current member of the VFW, American Legion, the Bonita Springs, Fla., Chapter of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Bonita Springs Eagles Club, as well as a lifetime member of the American Vets Club of Vero Beach, Fla., and lifetime honorary member of the Commercial Club of East Bridgewater. He was the father of Kathy Gallian and her husband Robert of East Bridgewater, Karla J. Machinski and her husband Robert of West Bridgewater and the late Kevin B. Edson and partner Donna Mayo Edson of Chatham; and brother of the late Richard C. Edson. Also survived by five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and longtime close friend, Joan Morris. Funeral service was held in the East Bridgewater Prophett-Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, Friday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours were held Thursday 4-7 p.m. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, East Bridgewater.

CHATHAM \emdash Kevin Bruce Edson, 52, died unexpectedly Feb. 9 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
Mr. Edson was a commercial fisherman who captained large fishing vessels including the Gatherer, the Hudson and the Donbhe. He went shrimping out of Fort Myers, Fla. and Aranssas Pass, Texas.
Born in Brockton, he grew up in East Bridgewater, attended Nauset Regional High School and spent most of his adult life in Eastham and Wellfleet. He was an avid Harley Davidson fan and a kind-hearted, true American rebel. He enjoyed boating, shellfishing and mechanics.
Mr. Edson is survived by his partner of many years, Donna M. Edson; his son, Jeremy Sweeney; his mother, Barbara J. Mabee; his father, Bruce H. Edson; his sisters, Kathy Gallian, Karla Machinski; his step-sister, Lisa Jordan; one niece and two nephews.
He was the step-brother of the late Robert Jordan.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at Nickerson Funeral Home, Crowell Road, Chatham, from 1 to 4 p.m. with a short memorial service at 3:30 and a continuing celebration at the Chatham VFW, George Ryder Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lower Cape Outreach Council, 19 Brewster Cross Road, Orleans MA 02653.
