Eben M. Earnest, 26
PHS grad faced adversity with courage
Eben M. Earnest, 26, of Provincetown died of renal failure March 9 at his home. He had been living with debilitating illnesses for many years.
Born in Boston, he was the son of Wayne Earnest of Eastham and Avis Johnson of Provincetown.
Eben was a class of 2000 graduate of Provincetown High School. Prior to 2002, when he was healthy enough to work, he worked at John’s Footlong hot dog stand and at Michael Shay’s restaurant, both in Provincetown.
Among his many memorable qualities were the willingness to face adversity with courage without complaining, and his sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he will be forever missed by his brothers, Peter Costa, of Provincetown, and Michael Costa, of Eastham; his sister, Nichole Costa Anderson, of Windsor, Vt.; his maternal grandmother, Marian Goveia, of Provincetown; his paternal grandparents, Lucille and Tom Harriot, of Brooklyn, Conn.; and his uncle, Alan Earnest, of Brooklyn, Conn. He was the brother of the late Chelsea Earnest, who died in 1993. Eben also leaves a host of relatives around Provincetown, including seven nieces and three nephews. He also will be missed by his many friends, especially Francis Davis, of Provincetown.
His family invites Eben’s friends and relatives to visit them and share their memories of Eben from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown.
Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Artificial Kidney Center of Cape Cod, 241 Willow St., Yarmouthport, MA 02675, or to Children’s Hospital Boston, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115 or through their website at www.childrenshospital.org.
