Notes
General:
Was a soldier in the revolution, a private from Truro in Capt. Nathaniel Winslow's company, Colonel Josiah Whitney's reg iment in 1776; also a soldier on the sloop "Republic" Caleb Dyer, master, in 1778-79.
After the war he settled in Athol, Worcester Co., Mass. He deeded his farm at Athol to his son Samuel, Dec 20, 1802, seventy acres. He conveyed another to his son James Dyer, part of the eighth division, lot 8, Dec 1807, taking a mortgage back on the same date. In 1790 when the first federal census was taken, Shebna had three sons under sixteen, and four females in his family.
In addition to the two sons listed he had three or more daughters. He died intestate, leaving a widow Mary, who administered the estate, Joel and Samuel Drury were sureties on the bond, Molly Dyer (probably a daughter ) and Amos Drury, witnesses. The son Samuel died intestate in the summer of 1809.
from "Genealogical and Personal Memoirs relating to families of the State of Mass" by William Cutter.
Two Shebna's listed - one a sailor aboard "Republic" Caleb Dyer, Master and the other a Private in various units from Truro. Dates of service might admit this being one person.

General:
Sometime in 1775, Solomon was supposedly asked to enlist in the army by his uncle, Captain Naylor Hatch, of Malden. He served for a time in the coastal area, south of Boston, then was in
Canada with General Schuyler's Company. It was with soon after that he was killed at or near Plattsburg, New York by the bursting of a gun or field piece during a salute following a skirmish. His clothes were sent home to his widow, Isabella.

Notes
General:
In 1760, Solomon Dyer and two others were appointed "to correct and whip the boys that are disorderly on Sabbath days at or about the meeting house," in Truro.
Solomon Dyer moved to Wellfleet about 1770; as most of his children married and remained there, he is justly considered the "founder of the Wellfleet branch of the Dyer family." In 1801, Solomon Dyer, of Wellfleet, yeoman, for $100, conveyed to his son Paul Dyer, of Truro, yeoman, "all my real estate in said Truro . . . only Reserving to my Self the use and Improvement of the said Granted Real estate During the term of my Natural life."
He was a covenant owner of Church, Truro, Barnstable, Ma, 2 Mar 1745-6.

Notes
General:
Solomon H Dyer was among the 57 men and boys from Truro, in 7 vessels, lost in the October Gale of 1841.
The only vessel Truro lost and later recovered was Capt. Solomon Dyer's Pomona, whose crew tried in vain to follow Capt. Matthias Rich's Water Witch to safety. Captain Solomon Dyer, 23, able crewmen Jeremiah Hopkins, and two others, Francis Inzerilla and Edward Ryan, perished at sea. The Pomona was discovered bottom up at Nauset Harbor. Inside were three teenaged boys - William Atwood, John Doyle and Reuben Snow - locked and drowned in the very cabin their doomed captain had hoped might somehow keep them alive.
