Marriage Notes (Oliver Doane)
Oliver Doane was one of the "husbandman" who bought land in the part of Orrington that became Brewer, Maine. On 28 October 1783 the Commonwealth of Massachusetts sold 10,864 acres on the east side of the Penobscot River to, among others, Oliver Doane.

"Oliver Doane served as a private in Capt. George Webb's Co., Col. William Shepard's Regt.; Muster Roll for Oct 1778, dated Camp at Providence; reported discharged, 1 Nov 1778, term eight months. He removed from Cape Cod to Worcester Co., Mass., in 1782 and on 16 Aug of that year, bought of Robert Kelley, 27 acres and 46 rods of land in the town of Spencer. Thid property he sold on 15 Mar 1784 and the same year settled in the town of Orrington, Me., where he was a grantee in 1786. His lot in Orrington was next south of the one upon which the Town House now [1902] stands. His home, remodelled, was owned a few years ago by Mr Otis Smith. He was a mariner and farmer. It is claimed that their sons were all lost at sea, the last one in 1826." 26
