Notes
General:
Ebenezer Truesdell, Jr., by 1748, had moved to Dudley and in 1750 was executor of his father's estate. At Dudley he was tything-man in 1751 (TR, I, 171), sealer of leather 1752 to 1755 (op cit, I, 179, 186, 190 & II, 13); surveyor of highways in 1757 (idem, II, 25), and constable for the west and of the township in 1758 and 1759 (idem, II, 30, 32, 34/5, 36, 37).
Ebenezer was admitted to the church at Chesterfield, MA, August 07, 1766 (as "Ebenezer Braydell" Ch Rec). One of Ebenezer's sons, Amos, Silas, or Ebenezer, III, was frozen to death in a snow storm. "The death of young Truesdale, son of Ebenezer who lived on the James farm", occurred after sugaring was completed and he had walked to Northampton to return a borrowed kettle. Returning during a heavy snow storm he lost his way. His bones were not found for several years ("Hist Goshen, MA", 113/4). Concerning the same mishap: "it was near the Healy and Luce homes (in Chesterfield Town) that Mr. Truesdell perished in early times, having lost his way returning from Northampton ("Hist Conn Valley", I, 494). 4

                8. John Truesdell (1724-1733) 4

Notes
General:
Ebenezer Truesdell probably accompanied his brother Richard to the New Roxbury or Woodstock area after 1700. He was an early settler in the Quinnebaug Valley where in 1708 he bought a house and land from Thomas Goodell in the southeast part of the Mashamugget Purchase, now included in Abington. When married in Boston by Samuel Sewall, he was noted as from Woodstock, she from Brookline. On 3 May 1713 his name was added to the list of petitioners to the General Court (of MA) for separate incorporation. He was a member of the committee to select the site for the town meeting house and also on the special committee to "provide a good dinner." As of Pomfret, on 5 January 1713/4 he sold to James Holmes for £24 a tract of 50 acres. In 1714, with his wife Rachel, he sold other land in Pomfret to Jonathan Hyde, not recorded until 1720. In December 1724 he was chosen Constable. In 1750 when he died, he was probably visiting his son, Ebenezer Jr., at Dudley [the Dudley VR death record refers to him as "of Pomfrit"].
Ebenezer Truesdell at the age of 65 made his will the day before his death. After the customary phrases on worldliness, death and burial, he bequeathed the household effects with £60 annually to his wife. Designating Ebenezer Jr. as sole executor, he gave Ebenezer Jr. his land (70 acres) and all bonds and funds (amount not stated) but charged him with all expenses and bequests. The latter included: to Joseph 300 [pounds], to "my Daughter Warner £50 six months after Rachel's death, and to Thomas' five children, £15 each. The will was probated in Worcester Co., MA before judge Joseph Wilder on 22 August 1750 and initial settlement allowed 24 August 1751. 4,253

Parents
         Father: Thomas Truesdell (1711-1744) 4
         Mother: Judith Leavens (1716-After 1791) 4

Notes
General:
Ichabod, after marriage, lived in East Woodstock, CT. He was a carpenter and joiner and is mentioned as being the first coffin-maker for the Congregational Church of that town (Hist. Woodstock, I, 299).
In the French War Ichabod served in 1756, a Pvt, 2d Co., 3d Conn Regt under LCol Payson (Conn Hist Soc Coll X, 373). A "Jacob Truesdell", unplaced, served in the same company. Ichabod reenlisted April 13, 1758, Pvt., 10th Co., under Capt Jediah Fay, 3d Conn Regt of Col. Eleazer Fitch, discharged Fort Edward, NY, Oct 1758 plus travel to November 21, 1758 (op. cit. 67).
After 1770 Ichabod moved to Vermont, then under York Province, and by 1775 owned 100 acres in Strafford, Gloucester (no Orange) Co., which he sold to Daniel Allard of Woodstock, CT for £16 (Orange Co. Land Rec., B, 90). He bought land in Thetford in 1779 and the following year, as a resident of Thetford, bought two 50 acre tracts therein which he sold in May 1784 (Land Records).
In the Revolutionary War Ichabod Truesdell served several terms. During the Strafford Alarm he was Pvt in Heston's Co. of militia July 20, 1777, being paid for seven days and four horses(Vt. Rev. Rolls, 1904). In the same year he served two months in Capt. Bush's Co. marching 220 miles (op. cit. 19 & 34). He again served in Heston's Co. for 12 days in 1780/1 (idem 364).
Disposing of his land in Thetford, Ichabod became a first settler at West Plattsburg, NY (Gazetteer NY, French, 239). Here he acquired at least two tracts of land but his name is not included in the 1790 census. In 1793 he borrowed £55 on a 50 acre lot at Beekman's Patent and later £30 on a one acre mill lot (Clinton Co. Mort. A103 & A195). Ichabod, alone, was reported in the 1800 census but he is not included in the 1810 census. There is no record of the disposition of his land in Clinton Co., NY.
About or after 1775 when Ichabod Truesdell left Woodstock, CT for VT, there may have been a second, unrecorded wife. The death of Hannah Dresser is unknown, whether at Woodstock or in NH. Not accounted for is a Mrs. Esther Truesdell, b. 1733; d. Newbury, VT (15 miles north of Thetford), 1823. In this connection it will be observed that the youngest daughter herein listed, born in 1779 was also named Esther. Additionally, there was a Samuel Truesdell, b. VT abt. 1777 (Census), d. Woodville, NY, 1866; m. Middletown, VT (40 miles distant from Thetford) in 1801 - Esther Fillmore. This Samuel Truesdell may be an unrecorded child of Ichabod. Samuel's descendants are contained in separate manuscripts filed in the Library of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society in New York City.
