This is scanned from our own battered volume, except the title and copyright pages and covers are from the American Antiquarian Society copy. It's a small book, about 5 x 5½ inches. There are probably some errors in the text, despite proof-reading the OCR output, and please report them to: webmaster[at]capecodhistory.us. (The criteria for italization of words is unclear, but is reproduced as found.)

Emerson and Dr. Potter; used in Salem, Newburyport, Portsmouth, Portland, Bangor, Providence, Cambridge, Lynn, Springfield, and hundreds of other towns; the work having passed through about thirty editions already.
THE COMPANION OF SPELLING BOOKS, by Wm, B. Fowle, in which the Orthography and meaning of many thousand words, most liable to be misspelled and misused, are impressed upon the memory by a series of exercises to be written by the pupil. Recommended by Wm. Russell, and others, and extensively used in the best schools and academies, to promote industry, improve discipline, and introduce the pupils to English Composition.
THE COMMON SCHOOL GRAMMAR, by Wm. B. Fowle, Part First, illustrated by pictures, for Primary Schools. Paut Second designed for Grammar and High Schools. This Grammar is peculiar for its simplicity, as well as for its thoroughly practical tendency ; the object being to compel the pupil to use the grammar and the language together, from the be-ginning
THE COMMON SCHOOL GEOGRAPHY, with an ATLAS, by Wm. B. Fowle. This Geography is made for Massachusetts schools especially, and has about ten times as much to say of Massachusetts as is said in any other school geography. The matter, too, contained in the book, is of such a permanent nature that a new edition cannot materially differ from the old, so that a frequent change of books is rendered unnecessary
THE ELEMENTARY GEOGRAPHY FOR MASSACHUSETTS CHILDREN. This new little work contains the Elements of General Geography for Primary Schools, but it is peculiar in giving the Geography and History of every town in Massachusetts, that the child may know something of Home, as well as of remote countries. By Wm. B. Fowle.
THE BIBLE READER, a selection from the Old and New Testament, in the very words of Scripture, without note or comment. This selection is highly recommended by the Rev. Dr. Jenks, editor of the Comprehensive Commentary; the Rev. Dr. Homer, late of Newton; the Rev. J. C. Abbot; the Rev. Dr. Frothingham; and the Rev. Baron Stow, of Boston, &c. &c. The book is adopted in Charlestown, and other places distinguished for the excellence of their schools. By Wm. B. Fowle.
THE PRIMARY READER, a lively reading book, calculated to interest children, and make them natural and intelligent readers. By Wm. B. Fowle.
THE CHILD'S ARITHMET1C. A practical mental Arithmetic for Primary Schools. highly recommended as an Introduction to Colburn's First Lessons, in Palmer's Prize Essay, and in the School and Schoolmaster. By Wm. B. Fowle.
A PRACTICAL FRENCH GRAMMAR for American Teachers, peculiar for its simplicity, its graduated lessons, its rules for pronunciation, and other points which enable a teacher to instruct others, while only a learner himself. By Wm. B. Fowle.
THE FRENCH FIRST CLASS BOOK. A new Selection of Prose, Dialogues, and Poetry. An agreeable reading book, containing a greater variety than any other of the kind, and chiefly from eminent modern writers.
HUMAN ANATOMY, in connection with PHYSIOLOGY, by Dr. J. F. W. Lane. POPE'S ESSAY ON MAN, a new and thoroughly revised edition, with notes, THE PRIMARY SCHOOL SONG BOOK, and the AMERICAN SCHOOL SONG BOOK, for Common Schools, on a new and simple plan. By Asa Fitz.
